GENERAL INFORMATION for couples
ABOUT THE COURSE
“Growing Together” is a course written by Andrew Body, a Church of
England clergyman. He was a counsellor for Relate for 30 years.
“Growing Together” is run as a one-day course in Sevenoaks by a team of
local churches and is open to anyone booking weddings in those
churches. It takes place in a variety of venues around Sevenoaks and
the surrounding villages – you can join in with any course in any
venue, not just one at the church where you are marrying.
The course is relaxed and informal - the emphasis is on helping you and
your partner explore together various aspects of married life,
including communication, sex, children and conflict. While there will
be times when the whole group will share their thoughts together, you
won't have to talk about anything with others which you'd rather keep
to yourselves!
BOOKING A PLACE
The church concerned will give you an invitation when they book the
wedding, and a list of dates and venues for you to choose from. Some
churches make the booking on your behalf; others may ask you to fill in
and send the form yourself to me, Revd. Anne Le Bas, The Vicarage,
Church Street, Seal, TN15 0AR. The form can be downloaded here and
sent
electronically if you prefer.
I will confirm with you the date and venue of your course once I have
received your booking. We aim to have between 3 and 6/7 couples at each
course. If there are not enough couples booked on "your" course it will
be cancelled (I will make the decision 3-4 weeks before the course
date,) and I will let you know so that you can transfer to another day.
COST
The course costs £15 per couple. This covers the cost of the
book, also called "Growing Together" which the course is drawn from,
and a simple lunch which the church hosting the day will provide.
Some churches include this fee in their basic charge for the wedding.
If this is the case, they will pay the church where the preparation
session takes place directly. Other churches will ask you to pay your
fee on the day to the church hosting the session.
TIME
The course will start at 9.30am with coffee, and run through (with a
break for lunch together) until about 3pm.
